June 8, 2010 - NSWBA-LA Cougars win their first medal in the California State Senior Olympic Games after being pumped up at the LA Sparks game during a halftime ball exchange from the LA Sparks.
The new NSWBA-LA Cougars had quite an exciting weekend after the LA Sparks first ever outdoor basketball game, June 5th. Three lucky NSWBA-LA Cougar players were given a great fan experience during halftime last Saturday night at the Home Depot Tennis Center.
In support of the NSWBA, whose goal is to promote healthy, active lifestyles through women’s 3 on 3 basketball, for women age 40 – 80+, the LA Sparks management set up this special event to acknowledge this first NSWBA-LA League.
To add further excitement to the Cougars weekend they participated in their first California State Senior games on Sunday at Pasadena City College. There were 19 teams competing and the Cougars had teams compete in two age brackets. The LA Cougars Gold, placed 4th and the LA Cougars Silver took 3rd, winning a Bronze medal.
Winning a medal in these CA State games has qualified these ladies to play in the 2011 National Senior Games, in Houston, TX. These games are held every two years where seniors compete in up to 20 events. For more information about the 2011 National games visit: www.nsga.hangastar.com.
