April 26, 2010 - San Diego’s SWBA women’s basketball league helps kick off the 2010 WNBA basketball season during halftime at the LA Sparks vs. China National basketball preseason game.

Come enjoy the excitement of the WNBA and see San Diego local, active senior women, 50 – 80+ play in a fun and inspirational halftime 3 on 3 exhibition game.  It all begins at 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 1, 2010 when the LA Sparks take on the Chinese professional team at SDSU’s Viejas Arena.

Not only will you see a fast paced and physical WNBA professional women’s basketball game you will also have an opportunity to see for yourself that there is competitive basketball after 50!

Witness and enjoy the competition, fun and action these ladies partake in every week at the Mission Valley YMCA, Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Some of these women are the original founders of the league which began in 1995.  They have won several Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the National Senior Games, played every two years. You will also see the “young ones” age 50+, who have found their place in San Diego to play, compete, have fun and make new friends in the process through the NSWBA, National Senior Women’s Basketball Association.

The NSWBA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the lives and health of senior women through the creation of senior women’s basketball leagues across the nation. The San Diego Senior Women’s Basketball Association is their inspiration and model for leagues they develop in the future.  A new league has already been formed in the Los Angeles area.
